Cannes & Marseille, France

Entry 10.

We got into Cannes in the late morning and once again dropped our bags at the hotel, and went to the beach. Thankfully this beach was a real beach, with sand and all. There was a marina right next to the beach and the biggest yachts I've ever seen were coming and going all the time. Some of them had 5 or 6 levels and were well over 100 feet. The beach we were hanging out was incredibly packed all day and then within 20 minutes it emptied and 20 minutes after that it was paled again with people having picnic dinners and listening to the music coming from offshore speakers. When it started to get dark we went back to the hotel to shower and change. While we were there the yacht club set off a huge fireworks show that we could see perfectly from the our top floor room. We went out to a local bar where Jose karaoked to Red Red Wine (its on facebook). After trying to find the casino to no avail, (probably a good thing) we went back to the hotel.
The next day we took an afternoon train to Marseille. It was only after booking the hostel did we realize that Marseille sucks and theres nothing to do there. Everyone we spoke with on the trains said Marseille was a waste of time and absolutely awful. So we canceled our second night, but were unable to cancel the first one so we were stuck there. On our way to the hostel we met some British people coming back from the beach and they had nothing good to say about it either. Thankfully we were only there for about 12 hours and while we were there we finally (a week after we should have) went to the pharmacy and bought diarriah medicine for our food poisoning that we still hadn't got rid of. At the hostel there was a bar and a kitchen so we didn't even go out an explore the city.
